The new way things work7/4/2023 From the pyramids of Egypt to the skyscrapers of New York City, the human race’s great architectural and engineering accomplishments have been demystified through Macaulay's elaborate show-and-tells. Following in this tradition, Macaulay created other books-including City, Castle, Pyramid, Mill, Underground, Unbuilding, and Mosque-that have provided the explanations of the how and the why in a way that is both accessible and entertaining. He published his first book, Cathedral, in 1973. After working as an interior designer, a junior high school teacher, and a teacher at RISD, Macaulay began to experiment with creating books. After spending his fifth year at RISD in Rome on the European Honors Program, he received a bachelor’s degree in architecture and vowed never to practice. During this time he began to draw seriously, and after graduating from high school he enrolled in the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He found himself having to adjust from an idyllic English childhood to life in a fast paced American city. David Macaulay, born in 1946, was eleven when his parents moved from England to Bloomfield, New Jersey.

Conway thinks he should be easy to crack, but he swears it was someone else-Aislinn had a way about her that really made men obsessed. It starts off looking like a regular lovers' tiff when the victim's texts reveal she had a date scheduled for that night with Rory Fallon, a smitten, daydreaming kind of guy. And Moran and his goofy smile are just along for the ride as Conway heads up an investigation of the murder of 26-year-old Aislinn Murray, found dead in her meticulous home from a punch to the face and a smack on the fireplace hearth. Here, she comes across as much younger and less in control. But while her mysteriously hard-to-crack exterior was compelling from Moran's perspective, her internal monologue proves less so. In the sixth Dublin Murder Squad novel, the unfolding of a murder case is seen through the eyes of Detective Antoinette Conway, a character we got to know first through her now-partner, Steve Moran, in The Secret Place (2014).
